ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS....

Image
How on earth is it Christmas already? I'm sure the last time I looked at a calendar it was April...well maybe August. Definitely not December. Yet here it is and tis the season to share the love. So what are some wonderful presents you can give a writer? I have a few ideas. There are the usual notebooks and pens. I don't know about you but you can never have too much stationery. Well, actually you can, but a nice notebook never goes astray. Pens, unfortunately do. Grand children do love a cute pen...and if it's yours they seem to love them even more. There is of course writing software. I have tried one of these, and alas, not for this little duck (too much of a distraction). But others rave over them...so for some, it works. And works well. A massage never goes amiss. Espeically when you have been hunched over a computer for hours straight, trying to solve a huge plot problem. Or working tirelessly to a deadline. Yes, a massage is a good idea! Som...

BIRTHDAYS..

Image
Another year older, another year wiser? Well perhaps not the wise part, but the older part definitely. And the older you get, the more you enjoy the fact that you do wake up each morning. Even if there are aches and pains and niggles, at least you are physically getting around and it's exciting to see what each new day brings. Check out the cake..made by my very talented and amazing daughter. It has flowers (love my garden) and it has snails. Long story but, yes snails. When you are no longer under 20, each birthday is a bit scary. You can't avoid thinking back to then... To when you were a mum to two young kids. Back to when you lived in the cottage and was a full time mum. Then you realise that growing older is a privilege.  Not everyone gets that chance...so you have to make the most of it. Birthdays these days, have changed for me. Don't get me wrong I love the presents as much as the next person ... so if anyone wants to surprise me next yea...

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS....

Honestly, I don't know how it is Christmas once again. As my other half says, it seems like only last week we were searching the shed for the tree stand...and here we are, once again dusting the stand off for our tree. Christmas Eve, and the stockings are hung awaiting a visit from Santa. The tree is decked, with presents lying innocently beneath.  Although these days, only two of us (oops and of course Tigger the wonder cat) are home. And Tigger has her own stocking, patiently waiting for a gift or two. Hopefully she's been a good cat this year. It's definitely not the same without children at home. When they were younger there was always that mad sense of excitement, the battle of getting them to sleep at some decent time. The cookies and glass of milk, that very quickly turned into a glass of port, left out for Santa. The carrots for the reindeer. When the children were school age we created a new tradition. They were to plan and cook the Chrismas Eve...
