DEADLINES...

Image
Honestly I don't know what it is about deadlines but I miss so many of them. Writing ones that is. And...um....er...perhaps other ones. At the moment we have a LOT of birthdays coming up. Little Guggle turns 3..yes 3!....Leobear turns 1....and Little Miss turns 10...I repeat OMG! Where has the time gone. Thankfully I'm nearly there with the present department. Have Guggle's already (thankfully as her birthday is next week!)...have Little Miss's sorted as well...and have a bit of Leabear's. A bit I say, as I intend to make something and um...er....it is not finished. Now with other deadlines I'm fine. Leabear recently had a Christmas in July and in 9 days I had knitted the cutest reindeer jumper. Deadline met! But this other deadline..hmmmm...I may make it (don't hold me to it). The trouble is I get so easily distracted. There has been some amazing weather so of course I've spent weekends in the garden. I mean how could you not? ...

FOCUS....

Another year, another writing retreat. It was all it was meant to be. I'm not saying I began a novel, wrote twenty seven poems or even two short stories... But...I did edit seven poems, read one poem out for workshopping and edited my junior novel. Work was done. As usual we walked... When we walk, we talk. Sometimes about our families and our home life, but mostly it's about our writing, our process, our dreams, aspirations and goals. It is often interesting how a different location, getting out of our comfort zones, can make us realise many truths. Do we really want what we say we want? Cryptic but so apt....does that person REALLY want to write short stories or are they now more poetry focused. We do tend to end up down Philip Island way---usually very close to the beach. This time we landed a bit more rurally bucolic. More rolling green hills than surf--but lots of nice cows to look out and admire. Even when we were locked in while a farmer went to get hi...

WEDNESDAY IS FOR....

Image
Writing. Well that's the idea. I have Wednesdays off ( If I say no to extra work and don't go in for training or meetings) so it is ideal to have this day dedicated to writing. And in theory it works well. In the morning I work on the blog, send it off into the ether- I then do tend to go out for an hour to do all those errands (my electric beater died last week mid burr and there is a child's birthday coming up this weekend and I'm working so ....). But I do return and head for the computer. List at the ready (my list of what to work on - dead lines to meet etc) and I begin...only to find myself... talking to Tigger (who so gets me I'm sure) or else... feeding those that drop in. I return to my desk, begin work on that poem I'm struggling with, or the short story to edit. Again. But my mind drifts....there is a load of washing to do (and the washing machine is thumping away as I type) but more importantly it is a beautiful day and the garden is ca...
