READING HOUR...

Image
Reading is such a vital every day part of my life that I tend to take it for granted. It's part of my job as well as my personal daily routine. However tomorrow, Thursday 20th of September i s Australian Reading Hour. So what's Reading Hour you ask? Simple. Stop what you are doing for one hour and pick up a book. They want Australians to remember (or even be introduced) to the joys and benefits of reading. There are so many benefits of reading. It reduces stress. Yep, you get to sit/ lie / sprawl and immerse yourself. Lose yourself. Forget all your problems and situations while you discover worlds beyond your own.  Is great mental stimulation and helps you to expand your vocabulary. How many times have we stalled at an unknown word or phrase? But then we look it up, we roll it over our tongue. We speak it out loud, try it in a sentence or two. And sometimes we file it away later so we can blithely drop it into a conversation. Reading betters our writing ...

WIGGLE-ICIOUS....

Last weekend, during the rain (although not as bad as forecast) we headed into the wilds of the city. There, with so many others, we headed to the Wiggles. To make it as interactive as you can. This was for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They lowered the lights and so many (fake) candles and mobile phones were lit up as we sung. Introduce anyone or anything new...and remem...

ENTERTAINING CHILDREN...

School holidays, children moaning 'there's nothing to do' and the dreaded 'I"m bored'. We've all been there. And when faced with a child that states 'I'm bored' and you tell them they could always do fun stuff like clean their room, or read the books they should have read for school- only to be met by the death stare.  What to do? There's always lots of options, some even include nothing to do with cleaning. Last weekend Other Half and myself headed into the city with Little Miss, Miss A and Master R. We lunched at Fed Square then a wander through the graffitied alleyways which raised much discussion. Why are they allowed to do that? Can anyone come along and paint? Cover Little Miss's eyes, there are bad words painted there...and there...and over there. (As Other Half says, at least it got them reading). They oohed and aahed over the three groups of brides posing for photographs. They discussed which were favourites and...
