LIBRARY LOVERS' DAY...
February 14th is a day to celebrate. I'm not talking soppy sentimental cards and last minute dash to the florist or petrol station for a bunch of sad flowers...but.....LIBRARY LOVERS' DAY.
Time to celebrate ALL the reasons why we love our libraries.
I've spent this week getting some really intense feedback on why some of our patrons love the library. The fact that all of these patrons were under the age of five is irrelevant...they have legitimate reasons why the library is the place to be.
Go Sophia!
And of course libraries have moved on from simply having print books, we have audio and e-books and e-audio. We have magazines, both in print and online. Non-fiction, biography, graphic novels, manga, genres, newspapers, books in other languages....
Yes, we are a definite base of learning. Both in person with a huge variety of workshops, seminars and classes being held, weekly or monthly. Everything from yoga to gardening, digital education and making preserves, workshops offering writing advice or drawing tips. But we also offer some amazing online courses as well...all free of course.
Amazing what a library card can do for you.
Every library offers a great range of activities for children. Whether they are babies, toddlers, preschoolers, school age, teens...we've got you covered. Frankly there is something for everyone, and if you can't find what you are after, ask. We are more than eager to listen to ideas and offer new programs.
Of course we are not only books (even if they are awesome)...there are game consoles to while away an hour or six, DVD's, CD's, computers, free wifi.
In our branch we have a coffee machine, free water bottle refills, and a community jigsaw being completed.
I know I'm biased but frankly libraries are awesome. Where else can you get to read books for free. Yep, never paying for something you may not like! Computers are free, wifi is free. Libraries are cool in summer, warm in winter. Awesome programs for every age group.
They are a place where you can study in peace, where you can catch up with friends and share the latest books. They are meeting places and places of information.
If you are not a member of a library, go out there, find your local and join up. They have so much to offer...you simply have to ask.
Yes I am biased but this week is the week to shout from the rooftops WHY WE LOVE OUR LIBRARY!
