A TOUCH OF IMAGINATION....

Wow, last weekend was ENORMOUS.

HUGE.

Even quite BIG...in fact I think we both went back to work to get some down time :)

Not that anything really big in the scheme of things happened...but we had people over...in fact quite a lot of people over at various times during the day. My Dad, daughter, brother, sister-in-law, and two nephews and two nieces (from different sides of the family)

Hubby and nephew went to the movies (some adventure smash bang thing) and daughter and Miss C and myself were alone with the cookies.

Teenage Miss C was first to decorate. Cookies were pre-baked, then some more were baked, and piping bags filled with royal icing in a rainbow of colours.

Then she set to.

With amazing results.

What I love about this is that there is no right or wrong way. You experiment, try different colours, add sprinkles. Pipe an edging and heh presto...

The two girls even made some bark...of the edible variety.

Once again this was done by 'heh how about we do this?'

My kitchen, after five hours of baking and decorating and icing and mixing and washing up (that was me if you didn't guess), was a tad messy....chaotic.....in need of some love and care.

Then it was time for the swap over. A pair of niece and nephew returned home....one set delivered to spend the night.

I forced ....helped them to make dinner (amazing home made sausage rolls)...a movie then bed.

Next day more cookies were made....and when cooled I quickly iced them in colours they picked out and we waited for them to dry.

Miss T and Mst N are younger and we decided that the edible pens would be ideal for their decoration foray.

And once again I was totally blown away by their imagination.

The squirrel with sprinkles, the decorating of George the cat....

These are my favourites. A heart turned upside down becomes ...a boomerang.

A snail whose head broke off (and quickly eaten) became the man with the moustache.

An owl cookie becomes a monster!

And yes Mst N was delighted with his results.

This is just a little bit of what can be done when you let yourself go. If there are no limits set by your internal editor. That voice that says "I can't do that"...or "Mine will never look like that" ...or "why should I even try?"

The worst thing about not trying is never knowing what could have been achieved.

It may be something as small as turning an owl into a monster....or writing that book that has to be written.

It's time to be a child again, to let your imagination fly.
