SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE...
Bit lame to say but we are all different. Different in so many ways and it's our differences that make us who we are. Some people admire nature in all it's wonders.
Others see nothing but problems. Animals, plants, weather...everything that can't be controlled.
Some see weeds....
others have a reminder back to childhood whims.
Some see ugliness..death...
others see a chance for art.
It's the same with what we like to read. There are many that can only read fiction, have the best sellers noted and have to order their latest as soon as possible. There are others that only read biographies...others that only dip into magazines because they are so time poor.
No matter your preference there is something for everyone at the library. No matter your interest or your choice of reading matter.
Little Miss has just discovered graphic novels.
Her reading is improving in leaps and bounds but she finds a novel confronting. All that text simply throws her. Graphic novels are a great way to continue her reading journey, and she's not alone. Books such as Andy Griffiths treehouse series are such a hit...often the first step for reluctant readers.
Funny with great illustrations, children are not daunted by solid pages of text. Great confidence boosters.
I have never really cared what kids are reading, as long as they are. Some will read Daisy Meadows for years (don't ask me how)...others will only venture into non-fiction, in an area they are interested in. Some will only read Enid Blyton, others only stories based on true occurrences.
Reading is what matters. The fact that they are enjoying it is vital. They are all too soon forced to read at school, books chosen for them (by adults).
If they can read for enjoyment, the majority of the battle is over.
